When it comes to the big decisions in life, choosing how you’d like to give birth ranks up amongst the pretty important ones wouldn’t you say? And it’s a decision more and more forty-plus women are having to make. Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that the over-40s are the only age group with a growing pregnancy rate in England and Wales.
Of course it’s not always a simple as as sailing through pregnancy and breathing calmly through labour. Complications or health conditions have a habit of getting in the way of the most perfectly laid birth plans and in some cases your consultant might suggest an elective caesarean section.
So, should you have a c-section?
This can be a confusing time, particularly if you were planning a more natural birth. So we asked the lovely Joanna of Hypnobirth Your Baby how best to wrap your head around the possibility of a c-section birth. Her tip, to use the acronym B.R.A.I.N.E.D. Find out how in the video below.
B: What are the benefits?
R: What are the risks?
A: What are the alternatives?
I: What does your intuition tell you?
N: What happens if you do nothing?
E: Time to evaluate all the information you’ve gathered.
D: Make the decision that’s right for you.
